MiDashScan ("the app") is a vehicle diagnostic tool made by BrixFabWorx. This page explains what the app does and does not do with your information.
MiDashScan reads data from your vehicle's OBD-II port and shows it to you on your phone or tablet. Everything it reads stays on your device unless you specifically turn on log uploading in Settings, or you choose to submit feedback. There are no ads, no analytics, no trackers, and no account or sign-in required.
Bluetooth — to connect to your OBD-II adapter. Android requires location permission to be granted before an app can scan for Bluetooth devices; MiDashScan does not use this permission to track your location. It is only used to find and connect to your OBD-II adapter.
Location (GPS) — used only to show a live altitude reading on the DigiDash screen, compared against the vehicle's own barometric sensor. This runs entirely on your device. It is never saved, logged, or sent anywhere.
Camera — used when you choose to scan a VIN plate (photo recognition happens entirely on your device; no photo is ever saved or uploaded), and used by Dash Mode's optional dashcam, which records drive footage and, if you enable Sentry, footage while parked. All dashcam video is saved locally on your device only — it is never uploaded.
Microphone — used when you choose to record an engine-sound baseline (SoundDoc — the recording is converted into a small set of numbers on-device and saved locally, tied to that vehicle's VIN; the audio itself is not kept), and used by the dashcam to record audio alongside video, if you grant microphone access. Dashcam audio is saved locally with the rest of the clip and is never uploaded.
While connected to a vehicle, the app keeps a log of the readings it takes (things like RPM, temperatures, sensor values, and the vehicle's VIN) with timestamps. This log is always saved locally on your device.
If you turn on Wi-Fi log upload in Settings — it is off by default — these logs are also copied to a private cloud storage bucket so they can be used to improve vehicle support and troubleshoot issues. This upload only happens over Wi-Fi and only if you've enabled the toggle. You can turn it off at any time.
If you turn on the dashcam, MiDashScan records video (and audio, if you've granted microphone access) while driving, and while parked if you enable Sentry mode. Footage rotates automatically to stay within a storage limit you control in Settings — older clips are deleted to make room for new ones.
Clips you mark as Protected are kept until you delete them, and are also copied to your device's normal Gallery/Photos app so you can find them outside MiDashScan. Nothing from the dashcam — protected or not — is ever uploaded to us or anyone else. It stays on your device.
If you submit feedback through Settings > Feedback, we receive the category you picked, your message, the app version, and (if you've selected a vehicle in the app) which vehicle profile you had selected. We do not ask for or collect your name, email, or any other contact information as part of feedback — if you want a reply, you'll need to reach out separately (see Contact, below).
Session logs and feedback are stored using Supabase, a third-party cloud data platform, in a private storage area that only BrixFabWorx can read — it is not publicly accessible, and the app has no ability to read back anyone else's data. Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared with advertisers, because the app doesn't work with any.
Local data (logs, saved sound fingerprints, app settings) stays on your device until you clear the app's storage or uninstall it. If you've uploaded logs or submitted feedback and want them deleted, contact us (below) with enough detail to identify your submission (e.g. the vehicle's VIN and approximate date) and we'll remove it.
MiDashScan is a professional vehicle diagnostic tool and is not directed at, or knowingly used by, children.
If what the app collects or how it's used changes, this page will be updated and the "Last updated" date above will change.
